This year the American Library Association (ALA) has named SLIS Master of Library Science student Jessica Sender and SLIS alumna Abby Johnson (MLS'06) to its 2011 ALA Emerging Leaders program.
- Excerpts from the ALA Press Release:
- "The program enables librarians and library staff from across the country to participate in project planning workgroups; network with peers; gain an inside look into ALA structure; and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity early in their careers.”
- "Peter Bromberg, assistant director of the Princeton Public Library in New Jersey, says, 'It’s wonderful to see so many Emerging Leaders from the previous four years now serving in leadership positions across the association. They’ve shown how valuable the Emerging Leaders program is in creating sustainable leadership for ALA’s future. In our fifth year we will continue to build on the lessons learned and success achieved by them.'"
- Jessica joins the list of SLIS Bloomington and Indianapolis students and alumni that have participated in the program since it was established in 2007. SLIS News stories on past participants are linked below.
