MLS Alumni 1960s
Peggy A. Hollingsworth, BS'67, MLS'68, won a 2001 Teacher Creativity Fellowship from the Lilly Endowment. She received a $7,500 award to pursue a self-designed summer project titled "Finding a Friend: Study of Indiana Author Mabel Leigh Hunt." Hollingsworth is the head librarian at Connersville High School and lives in Connersville, Ind.
James G. Jaeger, MLS'67, completed his master of divinity degree at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Ind., last spring. He was ordained and installed as pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church last summer.
1970s
Cynthia Wright Swaine, MS'73, MLS'75, was promoted this year to the rank of librarian IV (equivalent to full professor) at the Perry Library at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. During the past few years, she has made presentations and written publications related to distance learning. Swaine is the Internet editor for a new online journal, The Haworth Journal of Library and Information Services for Distance Learning. She can be reached at cswaine@odu.edu.
Deborah E. Bulloff, BA'74, MLS'75, is a children's librarian substitute at Marion Co. Public Libraries in Indianapolis. She lives in Indianapolis with her husband, Steven, BA'75. Their daughter is the fourth generation of Hargis women to attend IU.
Kathryn L. Waggoner, MAT'75, MLS'78, is senior librarian and electronic resources coordinator at the Grand Valley State University Library in Allendale, Mich. She lives in Grand Rapids, Mich., and can be reached via e-mail at waggonk@hotmail.com.
Brenda J. Watson, BS'76, MLS'78, received the Governor's Award for Outstanding New Mexico Women in 2001. The award was given for community leadership and advocacy for equality for all New Mexicans. Watson is a librarian for the New Mexico State Library and lives in Santa Fe, N.M.
Robert E. Skinner, MLS'77, released his fourth novel, "Blood to Drink," through Poisoned Pen Press in September 2000. His 1997 novel, "Skin Deep, Blood Red," was released earlier in 2000 in Paris by Editions Gallimard. Skinner is the library director at Xavier University of Louisiana. Patrick J. Wilkinson, MLS'77, was named director of the Forrest R. Polk Library at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, on May 1. He has been at Polk Library since October 1996.
1980s
Virginia A. Wilhelm, MLS'81, is senior librarian at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. The library was temporarily relocated during three years of renovation and is being readied for its return to Lincoln Center. Wilhelm lives in New York City and can be reached at vwilhelm@nypl.org.
Ophelia B. Roop, BA'69, MLS'82, is library director of the San Bernardino Public Library in California, where she directs library services and operations for four city libraries. She recently was honored as a Woman of Achievement in the category of management by the city of San Bernardino.
Chris E. Long, BA'84, MA'88, MLS'88, was promoted to associate librarian and received tenure at the Ruth Lilly Law Library, IU School of Law in Indianapolis.
Carol A. Casey, MLS'85, published "Game of Truth," the first book of her fantasy series, "The Athronian Chronicles," penned under the name C.A. Casey. She is a librarian for Washington State University.
Charlotte E. Ford, MLS'86, was a recipient of a $5,000 James T. Stephens First-Year Foundations Course Development Award at Birmingham-Southern College. She is an assistant professor of library science and has been on faculty since 1999. She lives in Birmingham, Ala.
Joann A. Balingit, MLS'89, is completing her EdD degree in educational technology at the University of Delaware. She is working on a study of how students in grades 9-12 learn to do research and how they use the World Wide Web. She lives in Newark, Del., and can be reached at jbaling@udel.edu.
Yvonne M. Ransel, MLS'89, was owner/operator of a restaurant and grill in Elkhart, Ind. She began working at Goshen College as assistant librarian and display and exhibit coordinator in 1999. She lives in Bristol, Ind., and can be reached at yransel@hotmail.com.

Sean M. Mead, BA'91, MLS'92, JD'96, is counsel for Blueriver Networking Services Inc., an Internet service provider and competitive local exchange carrier. He lives in Bloomington, Ind.
Anne M. Krutulis, MLS'92, won a 2001 Teacher Creativity Fellowship and a $7,500 award from the Lilly Endowment. She will use the award for her project "Inside, Outside, and Around Shakespeare," and will participate in poetry and Shakespeare festivals. Krutulis teaches at Greencastle Middle School and lives in Greencastle, Ind.
Don Glossinger, AGS'86, BGS'90, MLS'93, was appointed director of the Michigan City Public Library on Jan. 24. He lives in Michigan City, Ind. Kristine Markovich Alpi, BA'95, C BusF'96, MLS'96, is pursuing a master's degree in community health education at Hunter College, City University of New York.
Michael T. Stephens, BA'87, MLS'95, is the technology trainer at St. Joseph County Public Library in South Bend, Ind. He lives in Mishawaka, Ind., and his e-mail address is m.stephens@gomail.sjcpl.lib.in.us.
Monique L. Threatt, BA'95, MLS'99, accepted a tenure-track position as an assistant librarian with the Undergraduate Library at Indiana University, Bloomington.
Jon M. Hansen, MLS'96, accepted the position of assistant librarian for government documents and electronic resources at Kennesaw State University in Georgia.
Beth A. Schuck, MLS'97, is the electronic reserves librarian at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz. She manages a high-volume department that digitizes materials for courses. David J. Hoek, MLS'98, has begun a new position at Kent State University, where he is head of the music library and librarian for the performing arts. He lives in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, with his wife, Carol M. Hoek, MLS'98.

Emily B. Graham, MLS'00, is the Island Institute Library Fellow for the North Haven Community Schools on North Haven Island, Maine. She is working to develop a K-12 island school library. She can be reached at egraham@midcoast.com.
Todson P. Jeffcoat, BA'94, MLS'00, was hired at the Greenwood (Ind.) Public Library in the library's adult services department. Previously, he worked at libraries at Ivy Tech State College Library and IU, as well as at the Monroe County Public Library.
MIS Alumni
Michelle Fuhrman, MIS '01, has moved to the San Diego area of California to work as a human factors engineer for the Kyocera Wireless Corporation. She lives a couple blocks from the beach and loves the weather!
Doug Fischels, MIS'01, is a software developer and information analyst, for Amdocs, Ltd, in Missouri. He says he is grateful that SLIS emphasizes team projects. "From my experience, this is principally what employers are looking for in their candidates," he says.
Shorouq Almallah, MIS'01, is a knowledge resource manager at the Family Owned Business Institute, Seidman School of Business, Grand Valley State University in Michigan.
Kristin Wagner, MIS'01, is a web developer, for Pop Art, located in Portland, Oregon. Pop Art offers strategic consulting services for businesses, including web development, wireless applications, managed hosting, programming, 3D animation/fx, graphic design, and search engine positioning solutions.
Jiah Kim, MIS '01, moved to Ohio to become the web administrator for the Ohio Historical Society, which is a nonprofit organization incorporated in 1885 "...to promote a knowledge of archaeology and history, especially in Ohio."
Stace Chow, MIS '01, moved to Singapore and is starting up a business in web consulting services.
PhD Alumni
Lester J. Pourciau, PhD'75, continues to serve as a deputy chair of the International Organizing Committee for the Crimea Conferences. At Crimea 2001, in Sudak, he was presented with an honorary diploma for "outstanding personal contribution to the Crimea International Conferences organization, and for strengthening international library cooperation." Pourciau lives in Memphis, Tenn., and is emeritus director of libraries for the University of Memphis.
Dolores J. Hoyt, PhD'93, is the author of "A Strong Mind in a Strong Body: Libraries in the German-American Turner Movement." She is executive associate director for the IUPUI University Library in Indianapolis, Ind.
