NINES (Networked Interface for Nineteenth-century Electronic Scholarship)
John A. Walsh
NINES (Networked Interface for Nineteenth-century Electronic Scholarship) is a Mellon-funded effort, led by Jerome McGann of the University of Virginia to provide a peer-reviewed online environment for digital scholarship about nineteenth-century literature and culture, British and American. NINES also hosts a number of digital humanities tools for working with NINES collections and other digital scholarly resources. John Walsh, professor of library and information science at IU, is a member of the NINES steering committee and the Victorian editorial board. Andrew Miller, professor of English at IU, is also a member of the Victorian editorial board. IU has contributed two resources, The Algernon Charles Swinburne Project and the Victorian Studies Bibliography, to NINES and is in the process of adding the Wright American Fiction Project. IU provides metadata and, where relevant, plain text versions of these resources for indexing and searching in the NINES federated environment. This talk will provide an overview of NINES and the process by which IU collections are added to the NINES federated environment.
