With the New Year comes change — and, at SLIS, we will have a new look for our website, and we will have a change of Associate Dean.
The SLIS website has become a key place for prospective students to learn about our school. Last year, 99% of the applications were submitted online (vs. 72% just three years ago). The new look will integrate SLIS with Indiana University's color scheme and goals.
Associate Dean and Professor Debora (Ralf) Shaw, after 12 years of administrative service, will move back into a full-time faculty role. Her contributions at SLIS have been significant, and she will continue to make a difference at the school in new ways. She has been a faculty member at SLIS since 1988, and is an alumna of the school (Ph.D. 1983). She served as the SLIS Interim Dean in 2003. She is the associate editor of the Annual Review of Information Science and Technology (ARIST), and was the past national President (1996-1997) of the American Society of Information Science and Technology. Students know her from her role as SLIS Internship Coordinator and from the many courses she has taught.
Associate Professor Howard Rosenbaum will become the SLIS Associate Dean effective January 1, 2008. He has been the Director of the Master of Information Science program since 2004, and a faculty member at SLIS since 1993. He has received both the 2001 Trustees Teaching Award and the 2005 Frederic Bachman Lieber Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence.
