Title:
Organizing the Web: Semi-Automatic Construction of a Faceted Scheme
Abstract:
This paper explores the semi-automatic construction of a faceted vocabulary, which can be used as a mechanism for organizing Web-based resources. After analyzing the manual process of faceted vocabulary construction using an existing organizational structure to identify heuristics for automating the construction process, we modeled a hybrid, semi-automatic approach to facet generation that integrates the strengths of manual and automatic methods.

Title:
The Best of Both Worlds: A Hybrid Approach to the Construction of Faceted Vocabularies
Abstract:
This study presents a hybrid approach to constructing a faceted vocabulary and describes a Classification-based Search and Knowledge Discovery (CSKD) system architecture. CSKD is one of WIDIT (http://widit.slis.indiana.edu/) research project, which explores a fusion approach to information retrieval and knowledge discovery and aims combine the capabilities of both the human and the machine as well as multiple methods and sources of evidence.
